Hard chrome plating process and formula
Hard chrome plating is a commonly used metal surface treatment technology to improve the service life and surface hardness of metal parts by forming a layer of hard, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant chrome on the metal surface.
The process steps of hard chrome plating include pretreatment, pickling, pre-plating, plating, cleaning and surface finishing. The pretreatment stage involves processes such as cleaning, degreasing, and rust removal to ensure that the metal surface is clean; pickling uses an acidic solution to remove oxides and rust from the metal surface; and pre-plating is a process of coating the metal surface with a coating that has good adhesion to increase the bonding strength of the plating layer to the substrate.
During the plating process, the plating solution formulation usually includes ingredients such as platinum chromate, sulfuric acid, ammonium trichloride, fluoride, and surfactants. These components serve to provide chromium ions to the plated layer, regulate the pH and conductivity of the plating solution, affect the quality of the plated layer, regulate the crystallinity of the plating solution and the hardness and gloss of the plated layer, improve the uniformity of the coating, and reduce the generation of air bubbles, respectively. Specific formulations and process parameters will be adjusted according to different materials and plating requirements.
Equipment requirements for hard chrome plating include the use of suitable anode materials such as lead-tin or lead-antimony alloys, as well as rectifiers with sufficient capacity and appropriate heating and cooling equipment. In addition, the electrolyte temperature and current density need to be controlled during the plating process to ensure the uniformity and quality of the plated layer.
