In which industries are graphite electrodes mainly used?

Graphite electrodes are mainly used in the following industries:

1. Steel industry

(1) Electric arc furnace steelmaking: Electric arc furnace steelmaking uses the arc generated between graphite electrodes and furnace charge to melt metal. Graphite electrodes play the role of conductivity and high temperature resistance, ensuring the smooth progress of the steelmaking process. They are important consumables for electric arc furnace steelmaking.

(2) Ladle furnace steelmaking and refining: Graphite electrodes also play an important role in ladle furnace steelmaking and other steel refining processes, such as the production of titanium dioxide and stainless steel.

2. Non-ferrous metal smelting industry

(1) Industrial silicon production: In the ore-fired electric furnace for industrial silicon production, the lower part of the graphite electrode is buried in the furnace charge, forming an arc and using the resistance heat of the furnace charge to heat the furnace charge.

(2) Yellow phosphorus production: Yellow phosphorus production has high requirements for electrode performance and stability. The excellent properties of graphite electrodes make it an ideal choice.

3. Chemical industry

(1) Electrolytic reaction: For example, in the electrolytic cell of the chlor-alkali industry, graphite electrodes can stably conduct current, allowing the electrolytic reaction to proceed smoothly and produce products such as caustic soda, chlorine and hydrogen.

(2) Synthesis reaction: In the production process of chemical raw materials such as synthetic ammonia and hydrocyanic acid, graphite electrodes can provide stable current to ensure the smooth progress of the reaction process.

4. Battery industry

(1) Lithium-ion battery: As a negative electrode material, graphite electrodes can store and release a large amount of electrical energy. Their excellent conductivity and stability help improve the performance and life of the battery.

(2) Lead-acid battery: It is also used in lead-acid batteries and plays a certain role in the battery's charging and discharging performance.

5. Semiconductor industry

It is used for the growth of wide bandgap semiconductors such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride. These semiconductor materials grow on graphite electrodes and can be used to manufacture high-efficiency electronic devices after processing.
