“This Single Whale sculpture is one of my earlier sculptures. I sculpted it for myself as I think they’re beautiful and I love their gentleness. I enjoy their family bond and I later went on to sculpt a humpback Whale and Calf.
The humpback whale was hunted almost to extinction by the s. They are now a symbol of world conservation efforts. I really hope that we can continue to protect this wonderful species. If we can combat entanglement, ship collision, sound pollution and endemic plastics, we can help the Humpback Whale recover and heal our oceans.”
This sculpture bears Tanya’s signature and unique edition number. It will be carefully gift wrapped and is accompanied by a certificate.
This elegant bronze whale statue is sculpted by artist Tanya Russell, who is well known for her life-like wildlife and animal sculptures. Tanya has a passion for improving the welfare of the animals she sculpts and 10% of all proceeds from the humpback whale statue will go to the ‘David Shepherd Wildlife Trust’, a charity that fights for greater legal protection of endangered species.
The Single Whale is an open edition sculpture, and your piece will be a superb recreation of the original bronze Single Whale sculpture from a mould.
This statue is presented on an integrated base, made of Bronze Resin or Foundry Bronze depending on which material you choose. It can be additionally mounted on a wood, slate or granite base if requested.

When I model animals I try where possible to find examples from life. I also use many photos – often hundreds – showing the animal (and other animals of the breed or species). This helps me sculpt their anatomical features. I study the way that hair, fur or skin lies over their muscles or alters their shape, and their different poses and attitudes.
The Single Whale sculpture was modelled in wax, over a steel and aluminium armature for support. After the Single Whale statue was finished a rubber mould was taken, with ‘keys’ placed in the rubber to ensure proper positioning. Then a shell of fibreglass was applied, to protect the mould and support it during the casting process.
