Pipe grinding is something Hadlee and Brunton have been doing for over 15 years. Pipe grinding involves the drill being inserted into an existing pipeline, once in place a grinding head is attached to the front of the drill rod along with the new pipe to be installed. The existing pipe is then ground out and the new pipe pulled into position at the same time.
We specialize in replacing live sewer mains where we can replace over 500m at a time and have all the house laterals connected within a day.
Hadlee and Brunton have recently completed several large diameter grinding shots in Christchurch in the wake of the earthquake.
The advantages of pipe grinding over pneumatic pipe bursting are:

Machine Concepts designed this portable pipe grinder that will roll into a pipe and extend up to match the diameter. With the pipe rotating, the grinder will grind the weld down smoothly to the inner wall of the pipe.
The oil drilling industry uses long continuous pipe to reach the depths of oil cavities. Short pipes are welded together to achieve the proper length required. For good strength, the welds are large and protrude through the inside pipe wall. The inside diameter seams of the joined pipes must then be ground smooth to accommodate proper drilling function.
Small inside diameter pipe welds are difficult and even impossible to grind by hand. Machine Concepts designed a portable pipe grinder machine that will roll into the pipe and extend up to match the diameter. With the pipe rotating, the pipe grinder machine will grind the weld down smooth to the inner wall of the pipe.
